U.S. President Donald Trump warned that additional Iranian officials, areas and groups could be targeted as the conflict with Iran escalates, in comments posted on his Truth Social platform.

Trump said Iran could face further attacks and signaled that targets not previously considered may now be included.

Trump signals escalation

“Under serious consideration for complete destruction and certain death, because of Iran’s bad behavior, are areas and groups of people that were not considered for targeting up until this moment in time,” Trump wrote.

He also said Iran would face heavy strikes.

“Today Iran will be hit very hard,” Trump wrote.

The comments came one week after the U.S. began its military operation against the Iranian government.

Remarks follow Iranian apology to neighbors

Trump referred to comments by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier in the day, apologizing to neighboring countries for Iran’s attacks across the region.

Trump said the apology and pledge not to fire on neighboring countries came after sustained U.S. and Israeli attacks.

“After suffering heavy blows, Iran surrendered by apologizing to its neighbors in the Middle East and promised that it would no longer open fire on them,” Trump wrote.

“This promise was only made because of the relentless U.S. and Israeli attack,” he added.

Trump criticizes Iran’s regional role

Trump also accused Iran of seeking to dominate the Middle East.

“They had aimed to seize and rule the Middle East. For the first time in thousands of years, Iran was defeated by the Middle Eastern countries around it,” he wrote.

“Iran is no longer the ‘bully of the Middle East’; instead, it is the ‘loser of the Middle East,’” Trump said, adding the country would remain so “until it surrenders or, more likely, completely collapses.”
