Israel’s military is maintaining a high level of readiness across all fronts amid the possibility that a U.S. attack on Iran could trigger retaliation affecting the country, a senior Israeli commander said.
Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo, head of the Israeli army’s Northern Command, said the military is preparing for scenarios in which a U.S. strike on Iran could lead to a response by Tehran that impacts Israel.
Speaking in an interview broadcast on Israel’s Channel 12 television, Milo said Israeli forces are closely monitoring U.S. military deployments in both the Persian Gulf and across the wider Middle East.
“We see the Americans’ military buildup both in the Persian Gulf and throughout the Middle East,” Milo said, adding that the direction of developments remains uncertain.
He said that if Washington chooses to attack Tehran, the consequences could affect Israel, and that there is a possibility Iran’s response could be directed through Israel.
Milo said Israel is also closely watching whether Hezbollah could become involved in a broader conflict, noting that the military remains on alert.
“We are very cautious, prepared, and conducting both strong defensive and offensive preparations,” he said.
He described Türkiye and Qatar as “a major problem” in terms of regional balances.
Commenting on Syria, Milo said the situation on the ground is “complex and difficult,” adding that Israeli forces will continue attacks in areas of southern Syria under Israeli occupation.
Separately, Israeli army spokesperson Effie Defrin said in a statement shared on the social media platform X that the Israeli military has been focused throughout the week on increasing its preparedness across all fronts.
Defrin said the measures were taken in response to potential developments linked to a possible U.S. strike on Iran.
