Mohammed Al-Satari, a player for Shabab Rafah Club, was shot and killed this morning near the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid distribution center north of Rafah by Israeli forces.

Since Israel’s military offensive in October 2023, more than 800 athletes have died in Gaza, as the sports community suffers under bombardment, famine and collapsed infrastructure, according to the Palestinian Football Association.

The tragedies have resonated internationally.

In August, Liverpool and Egypt star Mohamed Salah criticized UEFA over the death of former Palestinian national player Suleiman El-Obeid, who was killed while waiting for aid in Gaza.

Quoting UEFA’s condolence post for “Palestine’s Pele,” Salah questioned, “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?

His statements prompted UEFA to announce humanitarian partnerships for children in Gaza and sparked global scrutiny of international sports institutions’ silence.
