Israeli security forces launched a multi-day military operation in Hebron’s Jabal Jawhar neighborhood Sunday night, according to a joint statement by the Israeli army, the Shin Bet and police, within the area known as the “Judea Brigade.”
According to the statement, the operation aims to “dismantle infrastructure linked to armed activity, seize illegal weapons, and bolster security measures in the area.”
The statement said the operation will continue for several days, during which explosions may be heard and the area will see increased Israeli troop activity.
Israeli security agencies added that the move comes as part of what they described as “ongoing efforts to thwart armed attacks” in areas of the West Bank.
These raids come amid an escalation in the city, as Israeli forces continue their operations, with a heavy military deployment in the southern area and neighboring neighborhoods.
Residents said Israeli forces raided three schools in the area and turned them into military outposts and field interrogation centers, Alaraby reported.
This comes amid expectations that hundreds of young men will be subjected to on-site questioning as part of what the occupation claims is a “security operation aimed at seizing weapons.”
Local sources suggested to Alaraby TV that the operation may be linked to complaints filed by settlers after gunfire was heard in the area amid a clan dispute, reinforcing the hypothesis that the raid is being carried out in a bid to appease settlers.
