Under the leadership of Türkiye, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will host the inaugural gathering of the Balkan Peace Platform in Istanbul tomorrow, including several Balkan nations.

Sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicate that the meeting will include Foreign Ministers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia with Albania participating through its Deputy Foreign Minister.

The platform’s goal is to enhance communication, build mutual trust and strengthen collaboration between regional countries while seeking permanent resolutions to ongoing regional challenges.

Balkan peace platform: Boosting regional unity

During the informal consultation meeting, Minister Fidan is anticipated to stress the significance of a regional ownership approach. He will engage in discussions focused on boosting regional integration, preserving stability and addressing current security threats, while exploring concrete collaboration cts parprojeticularly in transportation corridors, energy, and communication sectors.

Fidan will also highlight that the Balkan Peace Platform complements rather than replaces existing platforms and initiatives, emphasizing Türkiye’s commitment to supporting all constructive efforts that foster peace, dialogue and common prosperity in the region.

Also, Minister Fidan plans to conduct bilateral talks alongside the main meeting.

Türkiye's active role in balkans

Türkiye’s multilateral engagement in the Balkans reflects its innovative diplomatic strategy focused on addressing regional needs through initiatives like the Balkan Peace Platform.

Türkiye emphasizes both leadership and active involvement in various multilateral platforms and efforts within the Balkan region.

Accordingly, Türkiye has initiated Trilateral Consultation Mechanisms involving Bosnia and Herzegovina with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with Croatia.

The country also maintains regular involvement in regional bodies such as the Southeast European Cooperation Process, the Regional Cooperation Council and the Peace Implementation Council’s Steering Board in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Furthermore, Türkiye supports regional stability by contributing troops to NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) in Kosovo and the EU-led EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
