The Italy–Türkiye Association, formally established in Rome earlier this year, held its first general assembly on Friday, bringing together diplomats, academics and representatives from business and culture to advance cooperation between the two countries.
The association completed its official registration in June.
It was created to strengthen geopolitical, economic and cultural ties between Italy and Türkiye, drawing inspiration from the collaboration the two countries developed between 2004 and 2010.
Its inaugural general assembly took place at a hotel in central Rome.
Carlo Marsili, former Italian ambassador to Ankara and president of the association, said the organization aims to expand cooperation between the civil societies of both countries and will focus on culture, arts and education.
He noted that the association is at an early stage but has broad goals, including promoting Italian culture in Türkiye and Turkish culture in Italy.
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Rome Elif Comoglu Ulgen welcomed the rapid establishment of the association and expressed confidence that it will make significant progress if it maintains its current momentum.
She said she expects the association to grow further and carry out notable projects by 2026.
The assembly was attended by former Italian lawmaker Nino Foti, academic and writer Valeria Giannotta, and numerous guests from diplomacy, business, education, culture and the arts in both Italy and Türkiye.
