Kuwait International Airport came under attack Thursday morning from multiple unmanned aerial vehicles, resulting in property damage only with no human casualties, Kuwait's General Civil Aviation Authority said.
The authority's official spokesman, Abdullah al-Rajhi, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the incident was handled in accordance with the emergency response plan in place since the beginning of the crisis and in full coordination with the competent authorities in the state.
"The General Civil Aviation Authority has been targeted this morning by several unmanned aircraft. This attack resulted in material damages only, with no human casualties recorded," Rajhi said.
Rajhi stressed the civil aviation authority's continued commitment to implementing all necessary measures to maintain the security and safety of civil aviation in Kuwait.
The airport attack follows weeks of escalating regional military operations since Israel and the U.S. launched a joint assault on Iran on Feb. 28. Iran has responded with retaliatory drone and missile strikes targeting locations across the Middle East, including military bases and critical infrastructure in Gulf countries.
Kuwait has been a frequent target of Iranian attacks, with its airport and energy facilities among the critical infrastructure struck during the ongoing conflict.
The Feb. 28 escalation has killed approximately 1,300 people, according to casualty reports.
