Kuwaiti air defenses were engaging hostile missile and drone attacks from Iran on Thursday, the country’s army said.
“Kuwaiti air defenses are currently responding to hostile missile and drone threats,” the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said on X.
The army said any explosions heard were the result of air defense systems intercepting “hostile targets.”
It urged the public to follow safety and security instructions issued by authorities.
Iran’s IRIB news agency claimed U.S. military bases in Kuwait were struck during the operation.
It said one of the bases was hit, sending plumes of smoke into the air.
Iran has not officially commented on the attack.
The latest attack came after a monthlong lull in direct fighting was broken by a U.S. strike on Iran’s Larak Island.
That strike prompted direct Iranian retaliatory waves across the Gulf, including against the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Since the start of U.S.-Israeli operations against Iran on Feb. 28, 2026, Kuwait has been one of the most frequently targeted countries hosting U.S. forces.
Iran has insisted that its attacks target the U.S. military presence in Kuwait rather than the Kuwaiti public and has demanded the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Wednesday that it targeted the headquarters and accommodation of the U.S. commander at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
