Lebanese President Joseph Aoun instructed the army to confront any Israeli forces attempting to enter Lebanese territory by land.
According to Lebanon’s official news agency NNA, President Aoun met with Army Commander Rudolf Heikal on Thursday, following an Israeli raid on the southern town of Belida.
During the meeting at Baabda Palace in the capital, Beirut, Aoun received a briefing from Heikal on the raid, which left one person dead.
Emphasizing that the raid was one of Israel’s attacks against Lebanon, Aoun called on the army to counter any Israeli infiltration into the country’s territory and to safeguard Lebanon’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the Israeli incursion into Blida and the direct targeting of municipal employee Ibrahim Salameh.
In a post on X, Salam said that “the Israeli incursion into the town of Blida and its direct targeting of a municipal employee while he was performing his duty is a blatant assault on the institutions and sovereignty of the Lebanese state.”
The Israeli army carried out a raid with armored vehicles on the municipality building in the Blida area on Thursday, located in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon, roughly one kilometer inside Lebanese territory, leaving one municipal worker dead.
