Improvised explosive devices were used Tuesday to target power lines near a coal-fired power plant in Germany, damaging several electricity lines and briefly interrupting supply, police and a grid operator said.
Several makeshift bombs were found around 8 a.m. at the Preilack substation, which distributes power from the nearby Jaenschwalde plant, a police spokeswoman told AFP.
The plant runs on lignite and also burns rubbish.
At least one of the devices detonated, while others failed to explode, the spokeswoman said.
No one was hurt, and there was no major blackout in the area, about 100 kilometers southeast of Berlin.
Power plant operator LEAG said “an attack was carried out on the Preilack substation, through which the electricity generated at the Jaenschwalde power plant is fed” into the grid.
LEAG said there had been a “technical failure” in a unit at the power plant and that a possible connection with the incident was being investigated.
Grid operator 50Hertz said unidentified perpetrators damaged several lines in its grid.
“There was a brief interruption of service. All lines are now back in operation. The general power supply is currently not affected,” it said in a statement.
