The Israeli army tightened restrictions in Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Saturday as its military offensive entered a ninth day, displacing nearly 5,000 Palestinians and leading to arrests, demolitions and movement restrictions.
The operation began Oct. 23 and has affected Hebron and surrounding villages, where Israeli forces have imposed closures, raided homes and seized some houses for use as military positions.
On Friday evening, Israeli forces declared the Ein Deir Bahha neighborhood a “closed military zone,” raided homes and detained several young men, witnesses told Anadolu.
Footage shared by local media showed Israeli troops deployed across the area and Palestinians being detained and taken to an undisclosed location.
Israeli forces demolished the homes of Hamouda Wael Mohammed al-Jaaba and Ahmed Bassam Mohammed Ashour al-Jaaba in the Ain Deir Baha area.
The demolitions followed Israeli accusations that the two men carried out a shooting attack west of Hebron on Oct. 23.
Israeli forces have also seized homes in the Jilada and Ain Deir Baha neighborhoods and converted them into military positions, while demolitions and infrastructure destruction have continued during the offensive.
Five Palestinians were injured Friday when illegal Israeli settlers attacked a family harvesting olives in Tel Rumeida, according to the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission.
The commission said the settlers beat Palestinians, used pepper spray, threw stones and stole their olive harvest. It also reported that an agricultural room and equipment were burned in Masafer Yatta, while farmers were prevented from working in Dura and al-Shuyukh.
The Hebron Municipality said the offensive had displaced 4,969 Palestinians from 780 families.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said Israeli forces arrested 110 Palestinians across the governorate between Friday and Wednesday.
Closures have also disrupted 66 schools, affecting 2,872 students, including 2,198 under direct siege and 674 who were displaced and unable to reach school.
Displaced Palestinians have called for the closures and siege to be lifted so they can return home and resume daily life.
