Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. President Donald Trump’s adviser Jared Kushner in West Jerusalem on Monday to discuss the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to Israeli media reports.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that the talks at Netanyahu’s office focused on implementing the second phase of the ceasefire deal, which took effect on Oct. 10.
Kushner, who is Trump’s son-in-law, and U.S. Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff played a key role in brokering the agreement.
Kushner arrived in Israel late Sunday for meetings with senior Israeli officials.
The first phase of the ceasefire involved the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
Under the deal, the Palestinian group Hamas released 20 Israeli captives alive and returned the remains of 26 out of 28 individuals, most of them Israelis.
Israeli authorities said one of the bodies received did not match any of their listed captives.
The second phase of the plan includes the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism that excludes Hamas.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, since October 2023, Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed more than 69,000 people and injured over 170,600.
