An oil tanker was struck by an "unidentified projectile" in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, damaging the vessel's bridge, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.
"UKMTO has received a report of an incident within the Strait of Hormuz," the agency said in a warning issued at 0800 UTC.
"The Master of Tanker has reported being struck by an unidentified projectile. The vessel sustained damage to their bridge; all crew are reported safe. No environmental damage reported at present," the agency noted.
UKMTO advised ships in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity. "Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO; authorities are investigating," the agency said.
No details about the tanker or the projectile were immediately available.
Earlier this month, Tehran and Washington reached a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mediated by Pakistan, which entered into force on June 18 after being electronically signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump.
The agreement includes provisions on ending hostilities across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and lifting the U.S. naval blockade on Iran, while 60 days of talks continue towards a more comprehensive and lasting deal.
