Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi will travel to Tehran on Tuesday for talks with Iranian officials on bilateral relations and the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.
The visit comes as U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to attack Oman, a U.S. ally that has served as a negotiator in the region's conflict.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed the visit via Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), saying Busaidi will meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues.
Baghaei said the trip is part of ongoing political consultations between the two countries, which are both littoral states of the Strait of Hormuz.
"This trip is in line with strengthening Iran-Oman bilateral cooperation and continuing sustained political consultations between the two sides as littoral states of the Strait of Hormuz, to help bolster peace and stability in the region," Baghaei said.
Both Iran and Oman have coastlines along the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
The two countries have been in talks on new shipping routes through the waterway.
Control over the Strait of Hormuz has become a focal point in the broader regional war, with both Iran and the United States claiming the upper hand over the strategic waterway in recent months.
