Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said held a telephone conversation late Wednesday to discuss recent regional developments following what Tehran described as U.S.-Israeli aggression against Iran, Mehr News Agency reports.
During the call, Pezeshkian said Iran respects all countries in the region and supports stability in West Asia, but warned that any attack launched against Iran from U.S. military bases in regional countries would be unacceptable.
He thanked Oman for what he described as its constructive role in regional consultations and efforts to reduce tensions.
Pezeshkian also said Iran attaches importance to relations with neighboring countries and prioritizes expanding cooperation across the region.
Turning to reports of a strike on Oman's Port of Salalah, he said Iran remains committed to strengthening ties with neighbors, especially Oman, and said Iran's military responses target only centers directly involved in attacks against the country.
Pezeshkian said the recent conflict began while nuclear talks between Iran and the U.S. were ongoing.
According to the Iranian president, the U.S. and Israel launched attacks that led to the death of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, senior military commanders and civilians, including more than 170 schoolchildren at an elementary school in Minab in the southern province of Hormozgan.
He said the escalation caused significant human and infrastructure losses.
The Iranian president also said the attacks showed that the U.S. government and Israel do not follow international law and principles.
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said said Oman maintains a positive stance toward Iran and emphasized the importance of cooperation among regional countries to preserve stability and prevent further escalation.
He also pointed to what he described as efforts by Israel to create divisions among Islamic countries and stressed the need to strengthen regional cooperation to promote peace and security.
In a post on X late Wednesday, Pezeshkian said Iran remains committed to peace in the region but outlined conditions for ending the war.
"The only way to end this war—ignited by the Zionist regime and U.S.—is recognizing Iran's legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm international guarantees against future aggression," he wrote.
The post came after Pezeshkian held separate phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on Feb. 28, which Iran says led to the deaths of Ali Khamenei, top military commanders and civilians.
