U.S. President Donald Trump said more than 9,000 U.S. citizens have safely returned from the Middle East since the launch of the operation, dubbed Epic Fury, targeting Iran.

In a statement on his social media account, Trump said thousands of Americans had been evacuated from the region since the strikes began.

Guidance for Americans in region

Trump also shared instructions for U.S. citizens in the Middle East who wish to return to the United States.

His post outlined steps Americans in the region should follow if they want to be evacuated and travel back to the U.S.

Conflict continues to escalate

The remarks come as the war involving Iran intensifies. The United States and Israel have struck thousands of targets inside Iran during their joint campaign following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran’s Red Crescent said more than 550 people have been killed in the strikes.

President Trump said the U.S. operation is expected to last four to five weeks but could continue longer.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the war will not be “endless” and that the U.S. objective is not regime change, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the president would not rule out any options, including the possible use of ground forces.

The conflict has also disrupted global markets, with oil prices rising sharply as supplies are affected.

Countries have been working to evacuate their citizens from Gulf states targeted by Iranian attacks, as widespread flight cancellations and airport closures continue.
