Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed appreciation on Thursday for Türkiye's condemnation of U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran and praised the "impressive solidarity" of the Turkish people in a phone call with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He stressed that the continuation of the two-week ceasefire depends entirely on the United States "honoring its commitments," and called on the international community to press Washington and Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon.

Ceasefire 'continuation depends on the opposite side's adherence'

According to a written statement from the Iranian presidency, Pezeshkian told Erdogan that Iran accepted the ceasefire to preserve regional stability and prevent the spread of conflict.

"Iran's responsible approach towards accepting the ceasefire is in line with preserving regional stability and preventing the spread of clashes," Pezeshkian said.

"Its continuation depends on the opposite side's adherence to its commitments," he added.

Pezeshkian said Iran maintained its stance despite what he described as U.S. conduct during previous negotiations.

"Despite the United States' betrayal of diplomacy and attacks against Iran during the last two rounds of negotiations, the Islamic Republic maintained its responsible stance and accepted the request of neighboring and friendly states to stop fighting and establish a ceasefire," he said.

Pezeshkian praises Türkiye's condemnation, Turkish people's 'impressive solidarity'

Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to friendly countries that worked to stop what he described as illegal U.S.-Israeli aggression against Iran, singling out Türkiye for particular praise.

"We appreciate Türkiye's stance condemning the brutal attacks against Iran and especially the impressive solidarity of the Turkish nation with Iran," Pezeshkian said.

Iran president urges Islamic world to press US and Israel on Lebanon

Pezeshkian called on the international community and Islamic countries to take action on Lebanon, framing continued Israeli strikes there as a regional destabilization effort.

"Israel's actions aim to ignite a fire in the region, and Islamic countries must show solidarity against the Zionist regime's war-mongering and its jeopardizing of regional stability and peace," he said.

"It is essential for the international community and Islamic countries to press the US and the Zionist regime to stop their aggression and crimes against regional countries, particularly Lebanon," Pezeshkian noted.

Pezeshkian stressed that the ceasefire must cover all fronts in the region, including Lebanon.

Türkiye ready to contribute further

According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications, Erdogan told Pezeshkian that Türkiye had worked intensively alongside relevant countries throughout the process leading to the ceasefire.

Erdogan emphasized that the upcoming negotiations must be used to the maximum extent for permanent peace and stability, and that it was important not to give those who want to undermine the process any opportunity.

He said Türkiye was ready to provide every kind of contribution alongside friendly countries in the new phase as well.

Erdogan also reiterated his condolences and sorrow for the losses suffered by the people of Iran, and said Türkiye's goal was to establish a new climate of reason and dialogue in the region.
