The terrorist organization PKK announced that it will take a “historic step” on Sunday, following the call of imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan and the decisions made during the group’s 12th Congress, according to a report by T24.
The group, which symbolically burned its weapons earlier this year, did not specify the nature of the move.
However, according to the T24 citation, the PKK may withdraw from the Bahdinan region, including the strategically important Gara Mountain, along the Türkiye–Iraq border.
The announcement will be made at a press conference near Kandil Mountain in Iraq’s Raperin district of Sulaymaniyah. PKK is expected to issue an official declaration outlining new steps toward a peace process.
Rûdaw TV reported that a group of PKK members may be relocated as part of the process, which will mark the first phase of a “practical initiative.”
Some regional sources, quoted by T24, said the PKK may take radical steps to ease pressure on Ankara and accelerate the implementation of a possible “Return Home Law.”
Under this plan, PKK members active along the Türkiye–Iraq border would gradually move inland toward the group’s traditional bases in Kandil.
Erbil-based journalist Hemin Hosnav told T24 that the PKK is expected to announce its withdrawal from the Bahdinan region, including Gara Mountain, with some units likely to regroup in Kandil.
T24 noted that the PKK’s announcement will come just before the DEM Party’s Imrali delegation meets with President Erdogan on Oct. 28.
The delegation is also expected to visit Imrali Island before the Oct. 30 parliamentary commission session to meet with Ocalan.
