Two people were injured Saturday after a projectile struck the Al-Tuwal governorate in Saudi Arabia's southwestern Jazan region, causing damage to a mosque, several buildings and vehicles, the country's Civil Defense agency said.
The Saudi Civil Defense disclosed the incident in a statement posted on the social media platform X, saying the projectile caused injuries to two individuals in Al-Tuwal.
The statement did not specify the severity of the injuries or provide details on the victims' conditions.
Beyond the injuries, the agency reported that the impact damaged a mosque along with a number of other buildings and vehicles in the area.
No estimate of the total cost of the damage was given.
Jazan sits along Saudi Arabia's border with Yemen, an area that has intermittently reported the fall of projectiles and other cross-border incidents in past years amid the broader conflict in Yemen.
Saudi authorities have previously said such incidents caused damage to homes, vehicles and other civilian property in border communities.
It remains unclear whether Saturday's incident is connected to that broader pattern, as officials have not disclosed the projectile's source.
The Civil Defense said response teams were dispatched to the site, though the agency's statement did not include further specifics on the scope of the operation.
