A loud blast was heard at Riyadh’s international airport on Saturday, according to a witness and people familiar with the matter, multiple reports said.
There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities.
People at the airport were being evacuated from the facility, three witnesses told Agence France-Presse (AFP), as officials called on passengers to check their flight status before heading there.
One witness reported hearing an explosion while waiting to board a flight.
Two other witnesses said they could not confirm what incident triggered the evacuation.
King Khalid International Airport urged passengers to contact their airlines directly and check their flight status before heading to the airport.
Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways canceled multiple flights between their respective hubs and Riyadh, with some cancellations extending into Monday, Reuters reported.
Saturday’s blast, which followed attacks earlier this week at Riyadh airport that killed four people, injured several others, damaged a Saudia aircraft and sent smoke billowing over the facility.
The strikes prompted several carriers to suspend or cancel services to the Saudi capital, shortly before Riyadh is due to host major energy and investment conferences, according to Reuters.
