The situation at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant is deteriorating following repeated strikes near the facility, the head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom said, warning that the attacks pose a direct threat to nuclear safety.
Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev said the situation “continues to deteriorate,” adding that attacks near the site present a direct risk to nuclear safety.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran reported another strike in the vicinity of the Bushehr facility, marking the third such incident in 10 days.
The IAEA said there was no damage to the operating reactor and no release of radiation reported following the latest incident.
Earlier this week, strikes also targeted Iran’s first nuclear power plant, prompting the agency to warn that such attacks could “result in a major radiological accident.”
Russia, which completed the construction of the Bushehr facility, has expressed concern over the developments. The plant, which opened in 2011, is fueled by uranium produced in Russia.
The Kremlin described the strikes as “extremely dangerous,” highlighting the risks associated with military activity near nuclear infrastructure.
The situation has drawn international attention as repeated incidents near the facility continue, raising concerns over nuclear safety.
