Reports emerged Sunday of a mass killing of at least 150 Arab civilians in Hasakah province by SDF terrorists, with accusations that the group is carrying out ethnic cleansing against Arab tribes in the area.
According to reports, the SDF carried out attacks against civilians in Hasakah amid power outages, with sources indicating the sounds of children screaming could be heard as the violence unfolded. The SDF, which is dominated by the YPG that Türkiye designates as the Syrian branch of the PKK terrorist organization, has been accused of committing what sources describe as a war crime against the civilian population.
The reported massacre occurred hours after Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced a comprehensive ceasefire and integration agreement with the SDF, raising questions about the group's commitment to the accord.
The alleged killings in Hasakah stand in stark contrast to the terms of the agreement announced Sunday, which calls for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts and contact lines between government forces and the SDF.
The deal, published by the Syrian Arab News Agency, stipulates the integration of all civilian institutions in Hasakah province into Syrian state institutions and administrative structures. It also provides for the issuance of a presidential decree appointing a nominee to serve as governor of Hasakah province as a guarantee for political participation and local representation.
The agreement welcomes Presidential Decree No. 13 of 2026, which recognizes Kurdish cultural and linguistic rights and addresses long-standing civil and legal issues affecting stateless Kurdish residents. However, the reported violence against Arab civilians raises concerns about the protection of all ethnic groups in the region.
