The YPG/SDF terror group's "coup attempt" targeting Türkiye's terror-free goals has been stopped, and the "coup mechanism" the group served as a tool for has been rendered ineffective, Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Spokesman Omer Celik said Monday.
Celik's remarks came as Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced a "Ceasefire and Full Integration Agreement" that Türkiye described as an important foundation for Syria's unity and internal cohesion.
"The YPG/SDF's coup attempt targeting our 'terror-free Türkiye and terror-free region' principle has been stopped. The coup mechanism that the YPG/SDF served as a tool has been rendered ineffective," Celik said in a statement on social media.
The ruling party spokesman also noted that the YPG/SDF became a tool of an "evil project" targeting Syrian Kurds and all of Syria by failing to comply with the March 10 Agreement, thereby sabotaging Türkiye's "terror-free Türkiye and terror-free region" objectives.
"The YPG/SDF's assassination attempt on the 'terror-free region' goal and its effort to thwart the 'terror-free Türkiye' objective have been prevented by the Syrian administration's counterterrorism operations," he added.
The spokesman emphasized that the YPG/SDF's aim to act as "a state within a state and an army within an army" is a mission assigned by forces seeking to produce evil, contrary to Syrian realities and the principle of "one Syria and one army."
"As we have said many times, there cannot be a state within a state and an army within an army. The existence of two states and two armies in a country is a civil war that will bring evil to everyone," Celik noted.
Celik criticized those who claim to support "Terror-Free Türkiye" while opposing a "terror-free region," calling it a "severe political contradiction."
"Terrorist organizations cannot represent any ethnic or religious group. Those who describe terrorist organizations' occupation as 'gains' have become supporters of malicious political projects that want to bring destruction to our Kurdish brothers and sisters and all of Syria," he stated.
"What is essential is that with an inclusive social, political and constitutional model, our Arab, Turkmen and Kurdish brothers and sisters, and members of all religions and sects, become equal and dignified elements of a united Syria," he added.
The AK Party Spokesman also welcomed Syrian President Sharaa's decree guaranteeing Kurdish rights in Syria, noting it ends all rejection and denial policies from the Baath regime era.
"Article 1 of the decree stating 'Syrian Kurdish citizens are recognized as an indispensable and inseparable part of the Syrian people, and their cultural and linguistic identities are an integral part of the diverse and unified Syrian national identity,' is a clear expression that all rejection and denial policies toward our Syrian Kurdish brothers and sisters during the Baath regime have ended," he said.
"The Ceasefire and Full Integration Agreement announced by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa will be an important foundation for Syria's unity. This is a clear declaration toward Syria's internal cohesion," Celik said.
"The real gain for our Kurdish brothers and sisters in Syria is the roadmap that started with the March 10 Agreement, continued with the decree guaranteeing rights, and was finally framed by this agreement," he concluded.
Turkish security sources cited by Turkish media outlet NTV said that the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) conducted intensive contacts with the Syrian administration to ensure civilians were not harmed during operations.
"The signed agreement is based on Syria's unity and integrity," security sources said, adding that "establishing security in Syria is critically important for the success of the terror-free Türkiye objective."
Security sources emphasized that the fight against Daesh will continue without slowing down, with intensive contacts ongoing with the Syrian administration and members of the international coalition against Daesh, particularly the United States.
