The Syrian authority announced on Wednesday that Syrians living in the Republic of Türkiye who hold residence or work permits will be allowed to enter and exit Syria via six land border crossings starting Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, under “approved procedures.”
Syria’s General Authority for Crossings and Customs posted on X, clarifying the names of the border crossings, which are Kasab, Bab al-Hawa, al-Hamam, al-Salama, al-Rai and Jarablus.
Türkiye was implementing a passport-based crossing mechanism at its land border crossings with Syria for specific categories, including Turkish citizens and Syrians holding the nationality of a third country.
What is new in the Jan. 1, 2026, announcement is that it explicitly expands the eligible categories to include Syrians residing in Türkiye who hold a residence permit or work permit, while specifying the six crossings named in the statement.
The announcement comes as part of efforts to regulate entry and exit procedures through the shared land border crossings between Türkiye and Syria.
The decision is expected to facilitate family visits and temporary returns through the land crossings, in line with approved procedures.
It is also expected to ease the administrative complications related to entry and exit for the groups covered, according to the announcement.
The General Authority for Land and Sea Border Crossings announced on Nov. 10 that passenger movement had resumed normally at the border crossings with Türkiye.
