Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran prefers diplomacy and that a nuclear agreement regarding its peaceful program is possible only if it is fair and balanced, warning that Tehran will defend its sovereignty at any cost.
In a message shared on social media marking the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, Araghchi said millions of Iranians took to the streets to commemorate what experts have described as the “last great revolution of the 20th century.”
Araghchi said that over the decades since the revolution, and particularly in the past 12 months, Iran has faced significant challenges.
“In the past year alone, our people were subjected to unprecedented attacks by two nuclear-armed regimes, followed by a large-scale terrorist operation,” he said, without naming the countries involved.
He added that despite these developments, the Islamic Republic of Iran “always stood strong,” stressing that this resilience stems from trust in its own people rather than foreign regimes.
Expressing hope for the coming year, Araghchi said he sincerely wished it would be a year in which dialogue prevails over war and peace and stability take hold.
“Our preference is diplomacy, and an agreement can be reached regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program,” he said, referring without naming the U.S. to ongoing negotiations.
“However, this agreement is only possible if it is fair and balanced,” he added.
Araghchi emphasized that Iran would not remain silent in the face of any potential attack violating its sovereignty.
“Iran will not hesitate to defend its sovereignty, regardless of the cost,” he said.
Pointing to the millions who marked the anniversary, he concluded: “As millions of Iranians have once again clearly demonstrated, our rights and dignity are not for sale.”
