Spain has removed its ambassador to Israel, according to the country's official state gazette published Wednesday.
The Spanish government decided to withdraw its ambassador following deliberations by the Council of Ministers at a meeting held on March 10.
"At the proposal of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, and following deliberation by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on 10 March 2026, I hereby order the termination of Ms Ana Maria Salomon Perez's appointment as Ambassador of Spain to the State of Israel," the gazette said.
Spain's embassy in Tel Aviv will be led by a charge d'affaires, according to a source at the Foreign Ministry cited by Reuters.
The decision comes as Spain has been among the European Union's most vocal critics of Israel's war in Gaza and the conflict involving Iran launched by the U.S. and Israel.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has condemned the U.S.-Israel attack on Iran as "unjustifiable" and said Madrid's position was "no to the war."
His government has also consistently criticized Israel's actions in Gaza.
In October, Spain's parliament approved legislation establishing a total arms embargo on Israel, permanently banning the sale of weapons, dual-use technology and military equipment in response to the genocide.
