The Syrian government and the YPG-led SDF terrorist group reached a comprehensive ceasefire agreement after overnight clashes in the northern city of Aleppo that resulted in casualties, Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra announced on Tuesday.

Abu Qasra stated that he met SDF ringleader Mazloum Abdi in Damascus earlier in the day, where they discussed terms aimed at halting hostilities across multiple fronts.

Syria reaffirms commitment to March 10 agreement

In a post on the social media platform X, Abu Qasra said both sides agreed to a truce covering all battle lines.

The deal also includes arrangements for military deployment in northern and northeastern Syria, areas where government troops and SDF-led forces have frequently faced off. He added that the implementation of the agreement would begin immediately, without providing details on monitoring mechanisms or timelines.

Both sides are expected to implement the deal immediately, though details of how it will be monitored remain unclear.

In a statement released through SANA, the Ministry of Defense said it remained committed to the "March 10 Agreement" and had no plans for further military operations.

Clashes in Aleppo result in casualties

The clashes erupted late on Monday in the Ashrafiyeh and Sheikh Maqsoud districts, neighborhoods held by the SDF. Residents reported that sniper fire from tall buildings and mortar attacks targeted both security forces and civilians. Mortar shells also struck central Aleppo, including the Bustan al-Qasr vegetable market and the area around Rahman Mosque, spreading panic across the city.

According to the Syrian Interior Ministry, 25 civilians were injured in the shelling. The state news agency SANA reported that one security officer was killed and three others wounded, while a journalist sustained minor injuries. Government forces deployed reinforcements to the contested areas and strengthened security measures across Aleppo.

The Aleppo Governorate announced that all schools and public institutions in the city were temporarily closed due to the escalation. Local witnesses described widespread damage to homes, vehicles, and public spaces.
