Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa held talks with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and a senior economic delegation during a visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus.

According to the Syrian official news agency SANA, the visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and explore steps that could be taken in line with their mutual interests.

Following the meeting with President al-Sharaa, Minister bin Farhan and his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani, held a joint press conference at Tishrin Palace.

Al-Shaibani emphasized Syria’s commitment to economic sovereignty and described relations with Saudi Arabia as grounded in shared interests.

“Our choice is economic sovereignty, and the foundation of our strong partnership with Saudi Arabia is mutual interests,” al-Shaibani said, noting that comprehensive talks had taken place, especially in the fields of economy and energy.

He also expressed Syria’s gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its support since the start of the conflict, particularly highlighting the valuable role Riyadh played in the lifting of sanctions.

Addressing Syria’s reconstruction process, al-Shaibani stressed that it would be led by the Syrian people themselves, free from external impositions.

“We discussed opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation and want to further advance these brotherly ties,” said Saudi Minister bin Farhan. He added that lifting sanctions on Syria would have a direct positive impact on the lives of the Syrian people.

Bin Farhan expressed confidence in the creativity and productivity of the Syrian people, stating, “Syria has many opportunities. The Syrian people are creative, productive, and have the power to rebuild their country. We stand with them throughout this process.”
