Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani met U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq Tom Barrack in Istanbul on Monday, with talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, regional developments, and priorities for Syria's economic recovery.
The meeting between Shaibani and Barrack covered ways to enhance bilateral relations and reviewed the latest regional developments, according to a statement from Syria's Foreign and Expatriates Ministry.
The two sides also discussed priorities for Syria's economic recovery, according to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
This included the complete lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria and accelerating the country's reconstruction process, according to the ministry's statement, posted on X.
"The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed the latest regional developments in the region, alongside discussing priorities for Syria's economic recovery, including completing the lifting of sanctions imposed on it and advancing the reconstruction process," the ministry said.
Barrack serves as the U.S. ambassador to Ankara in addition to his role as special presidential envoy for Syria and Iraq.
