The Turkish navy’s landing ship TCG Sancaktar docked at Alexandria Port this week, carrying more than 300 naval academy students from Türkiye and other countries. The visit is widely seen as a symbolic gesture underscoring the warming relations between Türkiye and Egypt.
Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Sen described the visit as a “reflection of shared traditions and mutual respect,” emphasizing that it represents a renewed effort by Ankara and Cairo to rebuild diplomatic and military bridges.
“Our Commander and Dean visited the Egyptian Naval Forces Commander and explored Alexandria,” Ambassador Sen wrote in a statement on social media. “Our students will also tour Alexandria and Cairo.”
During his visit to the ship, Ambassador Sen highlighted the historic depth of military ties between the two nations, calling them “deep-rooted” and “inspired by mutual friendship and trust.” He noted that this joint initiative could pave the way for greater cooperation in maritime security between the Turkish and Egyptian armed forces.
The ambassador extended his gratitude to Egyptian authorities for their warm hospitality and support for the indigenously built vessel.
“We will together shape a future inspired by these bonds, grounded in mutual respect, friendship, and trust,” Sen concluded.
