An elderly man was killed on Friday morning after being hit by a Hellenic Train service in the Metaxourgeio area of Athens.
The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. at the junction of Konstantinoupoleos Street and Athinon Avenue.
According to initial reports, the man tried to cross the railway line on foot when the train struck him.
Emergency services responded with six firefighters and two vehicles to recover the body. An ambulance from the National First Aid Center (EKAB) transported the remains from the scene.
Police officers are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Local media reported that the victim may have been homeless, but authorities have not confirmed this detail.
