U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to announce a cease-fire agreement in Gaza during his upcoming meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, according to Israeli media reports.
Citing senior Israeli officials, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israel is preparing to negotiate the terms of a truce with Hamas, potentially including a prisoner exchange deal. The report noted that while progress has been made, "tough negotiations" remain ahead, particularly concerning the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Israeli sources said President Trump aims to use his meeting with Netanyahu to officially declare that a cease-fire deal and a framework for a swap of hostages and detainees have been reached. Hamas is said to have signaled a willingness to accept the proposal, though final approval remains pending.
The report also claimed that Trump has pressed Qatar, a key regional player, to pressure Hamas into accepting the deal. Qatar, along with Egypt, has played a major mediating role in ceasefire efforts between Israel and the Palestinian group.
Earlier, President Trump stated that Israel had accepted the conditions for a 60-day cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, following "long and productive" discussions between American and Israeli officials.
“Israel has accepted the necessary conditions for a 60-day ceasefire. During this time, we will work with all parties to bring an end to the war,” Trump said.
He added that Qatar and Egypt would soon deliver the "final offer" to Hamas.
Hamas confirmed it is reviewing the cease-fire proposal presented by the mediators. Palestinian sources indicated that the group appears inclined to accept the terms.
The development comes amid mounting international pressure to halt the monthslong conflict in Gaza, which has resulted in thousands of casualties and widespread destruction.
