Türkiye’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz, condemned Israel’s “colonization” measures across Palestinian territories, including the occupied West Bank, and said its illegal actions must be stopped.
Yildiz delivered the Organization of Islamic Cooperation group statement as chair of the OIC Group during an Arria-formula meeting at the U.N. Security Council on the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The meeting was held at the proposal of the permanent missions of Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia and the U.K.
Yildiz addressed what he called Israel’s illegal actions across the occupied Palestinian territories.
He said Israel’s “ongoing attacks against Palestine’s people, rights, land, security and dignity” made it an urgent necessity to address the root causes of the issue.
Yildiz recalled U.N. Security Council resolutions 2803 and 2334, as well as many other relevant U.N. resolutions, saying they addressed the fundamental issues behind what he described as a prolonged injustice.
“We condemn all colonization measures, including the seizure and demolition of Palestinian homes and the expulsion of Palestinian families,” Yildiz said. “Such illegal actions must be stopped.”
Speaking on behalf of the OIC, Yildiz called for the Gaza ceasefire, which he said is violated by Israel every day, to be observed.
He also called for the careful implementation of the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict.
Yildiz stressed that the Palestinian issue is “a single and indivisible whole.”
Yildiz strongly condemned Israel’s illegal actions in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
He cited the expansion of settlements, annexation plans, settler terrorism and violations against holy sites of Islam and Christianity, particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“We strongly condemn Israel’s illegal actions in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, its expansion of settlements, annexation plans, settler terrorism, and violations against the holy sites of Islam and Christianity, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque,” Yildiz said.
Yildiz also renewed a call for the Security Council to respond to the global demand for Palestine to be admitted as a full member of the United Nations.
He said the call was based on the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and the recognition of the State of Palestine by an overwhelming majority.
“This would be a concrete contribution to the just and peaceful resolution of a historic injustice,” Yildiz said.
