Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Türkiye will continue supporting Syria as the country works to build a secure, stable and prosperous future that includes all parts of society.
Assessing his two-day visit to Syria, Fidan said he met Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and Interior Minister Enes Hattab at a time when the region was going through what he described as critical developments.
“We are pleased that the Syrian people are building, through their own will, a secure, stable and prosperous country that embraces all segments of society,” Fidan said in a post on NSosyal. “We will continue to stand by Syria in this process.”
Fidan said the meetings reaffirmed the shared determination to preserve Syria’s unity and territorial integrity and help the Syrian people achieve peace and prosperity.
He added that the officials also discussed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s planned visit to Damascus.
On the second day of his visit, Fidan met representatives of Syria’s Turkmen community.
He described Turkmens as an integral part of Syria and said they had played an important role on the front lines of the struggle against the Baath regime.
Fidan added that the community was also making a major contribution to Syria’s transformation into a stable and prosperous country.
During his visit, Fidan also visited the tombs of Ibn Arabi, Mawlana Khalid al-Baghdadi and Saladin, as well as the Turkish Air Martyrs’ Cemetery and the Sulaymaniyah Complex in Damascus.
He said the visits marked his first opportunity in years to return to the sites, which he described as part of the two countries’ shared historical heritage.
“During our two-day visit, we saw the streets of Damascus becoming peaceful and lively,” Fidan said.
He reiterated that Türkiye would continue supporting Syria as its people work to build a country based on security, stability, prosperity and inclusion.
