The 10th trilateral joint meeting of the parliamentary foreign affairs commissions of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital.

Normalization in the South Caucasus

Oktay recalled that Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed the text of a peace agreement and reached consensus on the route known as the International Peace and Prosperity Route, also referred to as the Zangezur Corridor.

He underlined that a normalization process between the two countries has begun and noted that trade between Azerbaijan and Armenia has started.

“The start of normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia also brings about the beginning of the normalization process between Türkiye and Armenia. As Türkiye, our precondition was the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Oktay said.

He added that the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia would also have a positive impact on Georgia in terms of connectivity.

“Georgia is one of the main routes that provides connectivity between Türkiye, Azerbaijan and the Turkic world, both by railway and by road,” he said.

Oktay stated that peace achieved in the South Caucasus would positively affect the entire region and emphasized that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine should end as soon as possible.
