Bulgarian citizens made a total of 878,600 trips abroad in May 2025, marking an 8.7% increase compared to the same month in 2024.
Among these, Türkiye stood out as the leading destination, attracting approximately 241,900 visits, meaning nearly one in every four Bulgarian trips was to Türkiye.
Following Türkiye, other popular destinations included Greece with 191,400 trips, Romania with 80,300 trips, and Serbia with 57,600 trips.
Türkiye's proximity to Bulgaria, combined with shared cultural ties and historical connections, makes it an attractive destination for Bulgarian travelers.
The affordability of travel and accommodation in Türkiye further enhances its appeal. Cities like Edirne, Tekirdag, and Istanbul have become popular among Bulgarian tourists, offering a blend of cultural experiences and shopping opportunities. Edirne, in particular, is known for its vibrant markets and historical sites, drawing significant numbers of visitors from Bulgaria.
The affordability of travel and accommodation in Türkiye further enhances its appeal. In the first quarter of 2025, the average cost of a private trip abroad for Bulgarians was BGN 733.68, with food accounting for the largest share of travel expenses.
This cost-effective travel option, coupled with the rich cultural experiences offered, makes Türkiye an attractive destination for Bulgarian tourists.
