As concerns grow over potential U.S. military action against Iran, Türkiye’s National Security Council released a statement addressing key regional issues.

The council met under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to review major political, military, economic and social developments affecting national security in 2025 and to assess possible risks and measures for the year ahead.

According to the statement released after the meeting, the council evaluated recent domestic and international developments, counterterrorism operations conducted both inside and outside Türkiye, and possible scenarios that could affect regional and global stability in 2026.

Syria’s unity and stability remain a strategic priority

The council reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong support for efforts to safeguard Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, unitary structure and political unity.

The statement emphasized that Türkiye will continue supporting initiatives aimed at increasing the security, stability and prosperity of the Syrian people, underlining Ankara’s determination to sustain its engagement in Syria in line with these objectives.

Gaza: humanitarian aid, reconstruction and lasting peace

The MGK reviewed the latest situation in Gaza and the future of the ceasefire, reiterating Türkiye’s role as a founding member of international frameworks established to address the Gaza issue.

The statement confirmed that Türkiye will continue working to ensure the delivery of comprehensive humanitarian aid to Gaza and declared that Ankara is ready to assume all responsibilities, together with its partners, for Gaza’s reconstruction and the establishment of permanent peace.

‘Terror-free Türkiye’: progress reviewed, resolve reaffirmed

The council assessed the current stage reached under the “Terror-free Türkiye” objective, stressing that determined steps will continue to be taken to strengthen security, stability and prosperity both nationally and regionally.

It was noted that operations against terrorist organizations, including PKK, YPG/SDF, FETO and Daesh, are being carried out with determination, resolve and success at home and abroad.

Iran and regional balance under close watch

Developments centered on Iran were discussed in detail, with the council emphasizing that Iran’s stability and internal peace are of great importance for the security of the wider region.

The statement also addressed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, warning that its repercussions should not undermine the stability being preserved in the Black Sea and calling on all parties to act responsibly.

The MGK reaffirmed that Türkiye will continue its efforts to end the war and establish lasting peace, and stressed that Ankara will maintain its multidimensional diplomatic and security initiatives across Asia, Africa and Europe throughout 2026 to preserve peace and stability in conflict and crisis zones.
