Developments that began with Israel and the United States attacking Iran and continued with Iran targeting third countries risk future of region and global stability, Turkish Foreign Ministry said Saturday following latest strikes.
“We are deeply concerned about all actions that are contrary to international law and threaten the lives of innocent civilians, and we condemn provocations that could lead to an escalation of violence. We call on the parties to end the attacks as soon as possible,” the ministry said in a statement.
Ankara reiterated that issues in region should be resolved through peaceful means, stressing readiness to contribute to diplomatic efforts. “Türkiye is ready to provide the necessary support for mediation,” the statement said.
The ministry also underlined protection of Turkish nationals abroad as a key priority. “The safety of our citizens living in the relevant countries is our priority, and all necessary measures are being taken in this regard,” it added.
Israel launched what it described as a “preemptive” attack against Iran early Saturday under name “Lion’s Roar,” declaring a “special and immediate” state of emergency across the country.
U.S. President Donald Trump later said U.S. forces launched “major combat operations” in Iran aimed at “protecting the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”
The attacks came as talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program had been ongoing under mediation of Oman. A new round of negotiations in Geneva ended Thursday.
Last June, the United States struck three Iranian nuclear sites during 12-day Israel-Iran war.
