Türkiye on Tuesday condemned Israel’s military intervention in southern Syria and called for an immediate end to the airstrikes, which targeted positions in the Sweida and Daraa regions amid escalating violence.

“We condemn Israel’s use of military force to intervene in the recent developments in the south of Syria and emphasize that these attacks must cease immediately,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry stressed that maintaining Syria’s stability and security is in the interest of the Syrian people, neighboring countries, and the wider region.

“Accordingly, the steps taken by the Syrian government to establish security across the country and strengthen its presence should be supported,” the statement added..

Israeli warplanes strike Syria's Sweida

Israeli warplanes reportedly launched airstrikes on the Druze-majority governorate of Sweida and areas surrounding Izra in Syria’s southwestern Daraa province.

Syria’s state-run SANA news agency confirmed multiple Israeli strikes in Sweida but did not provide casualty figures. The report also said Israeli jets targeted areas near Izra city in the Daraa countryside.

Israel’s Army Radio reported a strike on a Syrian tank after it entered Sweida city. The Israeli military later released a statement saying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered strikes against Syrian forces and military vehicles in the region.

The Israeli army said it “struck several armored fighting vehicles consisting of tanks, APCs, and MLRS, as well as access roads, in order to disrupt the convoys' arrival to the area.”

Earlier Tuesday, Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra declared a full cease-fire in Sweida following negotiations with local community leaders.

According to SANA, the Syrian army began withdrawing heavy weaponry from Sweida as part of the cease-fire terms and prepared to hand over neighborhood control to internal security forces tasked with maintaining law and order.

The airstrikes came after deadly clashes in Sweida between Bedouin tribal fighters and Druze militias that left more than 30 people dead and nearly 100 injured, the Syrian Interior Ministry said Monday.
