The United Arab Emirates has expressed its solidarity and sincere condolences with the State of Qatar and the Republic of Türkiye over the death of seven people following the crash of a helicopter in Qatar’s territorial waters, as a result of a technical malfunction during a routine mission.
In a statement, the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) conveyed its "sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the killed from the Qatari Armed Forces and the joint Qatari-Turkish forces, as well as to the government and people of Qatar and the government and people of Türkiye, over this tragic loss."
Qatar's Defense Ministry recently stated that the helicopter suffered a "technical malfunction" during a routine mission before crashing in the country's regional waters.
Qatar's Interior Ministry said specialized teams are continuing intensive efforts to locate the remaining missing person. No further details on the cause of the crash were provided, and there was no indication that the crash was the result of hostile action.
The incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions. Qatar has faced repeated Iranian drone and missile strikes since the start of U.S.-Israeli joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, with the country's Ras Laffan Industrial City being struck multiple times.
