Qatar’s Defense Ministry said a military helicopter crashed in the country’s regional waters after a technical malfunction during a routine duty.
The ministry said the aircraft suffered a malfunction during a routine mission, which led to the crash, and that a search operation is underway for crew members and passengers.
No further details were provided on the cause beyond the reported technical malfunction.
Officials said there was no immediate indication that the crash resulted from hostile action.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions following the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran that began on Feb. 28.
Qatar has faced repeated Iranian drone and missile strikes since the start of the conflict, with the Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) production hubs, being struck multiple times.
The crash occurred as the country continues to deal with security challenges linked to the broader regional escalation.
