Turkish Defense Ministry Press and Public Relations Advisor and Ministry Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Akturk confirmed ongoing technical discussions for establishing a Türkiye-Israel deconfliction mechanism during the ministry's weekly press briefing.

Defense Ministry sources provided updates on recent Syria cooperation visits and continued security operations in Syrian territories during the comprehensive briefing for journalists.

Technical discussions continue for Türkiye-Israel deconfliction mechanism

Defense Ministry sources confirmed technical discussions are ongoing with counterparts regarding establishing a deconfliction mechanism to prevent unwanted incidents in Syria.

"Technical discussions continue in coordination with our counterparts regarding the establishment of a deconfliction mechanism to prevent unwanted incidents in Syria," ministry sources stated during the press briefing.

The sources emphasized the importance of relying only on official statements, noting, "As we have stated before on this matter, news and information other than statements made by official authorities should not be trusted."

Turkish Defense Delegation visits Syria for military cooperation

Ministry sources provided details about the recent Turkish Defense Ministry delegation visit to Syria, confirming that Defense and Security General Director Major General Ilkay Altindag led the military delegation on May 20.

The Turkish delegation was received by Syrian Defense Minister Major General Murhef Abu Kasra, where they exchanged views on military cooperation and coordination issues.

"Our delegation, received by the Syrian Defense Minister, exchanged views on military cooperation and coordination issues," Akturk stated, providing official confirmation of the high-level meeting.

Defense cooperation discussions focus on regional stability

Defense Ministry sources detailed the scope of discussions between the Turkish delegation and the Syrian defense minister, emphasizing comprehensive cooperation objectives.

The meeting addressed strengthening defense cooperation between Türkiye and Syria, enhancing Syria's security capacity, improving coordination between the two countries, and cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.

"This visit is considered an important step in the Türkiye-Syria normalization process and contributes to our efforts to ensure stability in the region," the ministry sources said.

Ongoing mine clearance operations in Syrian territories

Rear Admiral Akturk provided updates on security operations in Syrian territories, emphasizing continued efforts to ensure stability and facilitate refugee returns.

"Mine and improvised explosive device detection and destruction activities, as well as tunnel detection and destruction operations, continue uninterrupted in the operational areas in Syria," Akturk stated.

He emphasized Türkiye's commitment to supporting Syria's territorial integrity while enhancing security cooperation.

Türkiye supports Syria's territorial integrity, security capacity

The Defense Ministry spokesperson reaffirmed Türkiye's support for Syria's sovereignty and ongoing efforts to strengthen the country's defense capabilities.

"Our close cooperation continues with determination to ensure permanent security in Syria, whose sovereignty and territorial integrity we support, and to increase Syria's defense and security capacity," Akturk said.

The spokesperson noted that work continues toward establishing stability in Syria and ensuring the voluntary, safe, and dignified return of refugees.
