Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Thursday that Türkiye opposes any attempt to trigger internal conflict in Iran.
“We are completely opposed to any plan that aims to provoke civil war in Iran or fuel conflicts along ethnic or religious fault lines,” Fidan said during a press briefing after meeting German counterpart Johann David Wadephul in Ankara.
Fidan also warned that scenarios aimed at encouraging separatism in Iran were being raised.
“It is essential that negotiations continue without interruption. Our country will continue to cooperate with all parties in the name of peace. We are ready to host the next round of negotiations,” he said.
Fidan also called for an immediate end to Israel’s bombardment of neighboring Lebanon.
“Israel, pursuing expansionist policies, is bringing its dirty war into Lebanon. Israeli attacks must end before the Lebanese state collapses,” he said at the joint news conference.
His remarks came as U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, launched Feb. 28, have killed about 1,300 people and injured
Tensions gripped the Middle East after Israel and the U.S. launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28 and have so far killed more than 1,300 people, including Ali Khamenei, the country's former supreme leader, and more than 150 schoolgirls. More than 10,000 people were also injured in the Israeli and US attacks.
Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.
