Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed Türkiye’s intention to participate in the Gaza reconstruction conference, which will be hosted by Egypt, praising Egyptian–Turkish mediation for achieving a Gaza ceasefire.
The statement came during Erdogan’s meeting with Wael Ibrahim Ali Badawi El Sheikh, Egypt’s newly appointed ambassador to Türkiye, who presented his credentials to the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
He praised the successful Egyptian–Turkish mediation efforts that led to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and commended the outcomes of the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit.
Ambassador Badawi conveyed the greetings of Egypt’s President Sisi to President Erdogan, along with congratulations on the occasion of Türkiye’s National Day.
President Erdogan asked the ambassador to convey his regards to the Egyptian president, expressing Türkiye’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with Egypt across various fields and to expand bilateral trade.
He noted that this year marks the centenary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Ambassador Badawi reaffirmed Egypt’s interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation and noted that preparations are underway for a meeting of the Joint Planning Group, co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries.
The meeting will pave the way for President Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Cairo next year to attend the High-Level Strategic Council meeting.
He added that Egypt looks forward to developing broader avenues of cooperation with Türkiye in ways that serve the interests of both peoples and reinforce regional partnership on issues of mutual concern.
