Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi stated on Thursday that Türkiye's role in the region will help reduce tensions and escalations, and revive political dialogue channels based on clear principles.
"We want to express that we truly appreciate the role that Türkiye has undertaken. This role that Türkiye has undertaken together with other stakeholders in the region is a very important role, both regionally and in the international arena," Busaidi said at a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
"At the same time, we believe this role supports our political and humanitarian efforts. These efforts are aimed at reducing tensions and escalations in the region. Thus, we believe that political dialogue channels will be revived based on clear principles. The seeds of trust, stability and prosperity will be sown in the region, and their foundations will be strengthened," he added.
Busaidi said the meeting with Fidan demonstrated that relations between the two countries are developed and solid, noting that the mutual visits of Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are also indicators of good relations.
"We believe that relations between Oman and Türkiye are progressing on the right path with clear and confident steps, and this path is developing considerably based on mutual trust and respect. There are very serious potential and opportunities here," Busaidi said.
Emphasizing that bin Tariq and Erdoğan are in agreement, Busaidi said: "There is a common will to further develop and expand the affairs between the two countries to broader horizons."
Busaidi said political and diplomatic cooperation and coordination between the two countries is a fundamental issue and strategic basis, adding, "Relations between the two countries will contribute in both official and private sector contexts."
He noted that concrete projects to be developed between the two countries through joint efforts will also benefit the regional countries.
Busaidi said they exchanged views with Fidan on developments in the region, "Because these are issues that closely concern trust, prosperity, and stability in the region. The Palestinian issue will continue to remain our central critical issue. We consulted on the current developments in Yemen. Similarly, we also discussed developments in Syria, Sudan and Somalia," he noted.
Responding to a question about recent developments in Yemen, Oman's neighbor, Busaidi said: "We are working together with all stakeholders and neighboring countries to ensure stability and security."
"We are continuing such work so that all problems are resolved through dialogue, through peace and through agreement," he added.
Busaidi emphasized that they are extremely pleased with Saudi Arabia's initiative to host a conference on the situation in Yemen.
"We hope that situations in Yemen will return to stability, return to normal life, and thus conclude in a way that will ensure Yemen's interests and security," Busaidi said.
Busaidi said Oman and Türkiye believe that the development and progress of the region is only possible through positive and constructive cooperation.
"The foundations of mutual trust come from respecting the sovereignty, stability and respect principles of countries. Thus, a more stable future can be built," Busaidi said.
