Two people were killed Thursday in Abu Dhabi after debris fell following the interception of a ballistic missile, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
"Abu Dhabi authorities have responded to an incident involving falling debris in Sweihan street, following the successful interception of a ballistic missile by air defence systems," the media office said in a statement.
"The incident resulted in the deaths of two unidentified individuals, three injuries, and damage to a number of cars," the media office added.
The statement said further updates would be provided in due course.
The region has been on high alert since the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, which has so far killed more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
