Bomb threats were reported Tuesday on two passenger planes bound for Warsaw, prompting one flight from London to divert to Warsaw-Modlin Airport and another from Copenhagen to undergo security checks after landing at Warsaw Chopin Airport.
A bomb threat was reported at 9:54 a.m. aboard a LOT Polish Airlines flight traveling from London Heathrow to Warsaw Chopin Airport, according to Warsaw-Modlin Airport authorities.
The Boeing 737 MAX diverted to Modlin and landed at 10:01 a.m. with 181 people aboard.
After landing, the aircraft was directed to a designated area while security services, including explosives teams, began checking the reported threat.
The airport said the plane was carrying about 3.7 tons of fuel at the time of landing.
Passengers were being evacuated as authorities worked to ensure the safety of everyone at the airport.
Warsaw-Modlin Airport was closed until further notice, with officials saying they would provide updates on when operations could resume.
A separate bomb threat was reported aboard an SAS flight traveling from Copenhagen to Warsaw.
The aircraft landed at Warsaw Chopin Airport and was being checked by security services, an airport spokesperson said.
Unlike Modlin, Warsaw Chopin Airport continued operating during the security response.
Warsaw has two airports: Chopin Airport, located within the city, and Modlin Airport, about 36 kilometers, or 22 miles, from the Polish capital and used mainly by budget airlines.
