A woman was injured after a missile struck a three-story building in Damascus on Friday night, a security source told Sky News Arabia, prompting a major security response in the Syrian capital.

The missile hit the residential building in what authorities described as an apparent targeted attack by unknown assailants, according to security officials investigating the incident.

Explosion heard across neighborhood

Residents in the Al-Hadath neighborhood reported hearing an explosion Friday evening, according to initial accounts. The blast drew immediate attention from security forces, who established a heavy presence in the nearby Mezzeh district as emergency services responded to the scene.

Ambulances rushed to the area following the strike, Asharq reported. The extent of the woman's injuries was not immediately disclosed.

Investigation underway

Security officials told local media outlets they had opened an investigation into the incident. Authorities have not identified the source of the missile or disclosed potential motives for the attack on the residential building.

The assailants behind the strike remain unknown, and officials have not released information about possible suspects or whether the building's residents were specifically targeted.

Damascus remains tense

Damascus, Syria's capital and largest city, sits in the southwestern part of the country and has served as the seat of government throughout Syria's ongoing conflict.

The Mezzeh district, where security forces concentrated their response, is located in the western part of the capital and includes both residential areas and government facilities.

The investigation into Friday's missile strike continues as authorities work to determine who carried out the attack and why the building was targeted.
