US kills Key Daesh leader Rakhim Boev in northwest Syria airstrike

The United States announced that it killed a key Daesh leader in a recent airstrike in northwest Syria.

According to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on X (formerly Twitter), on June 10, the US military targeted and killed Rakhim Boev, a senior Daesh operative involved in planning external attacks threatening US citizens, partners, and civilians.

CENTCOM emphasized that the strike was part of ongoing efforts alongside regional partners to disrupt Daesh's attempts to organize and carry out attacks against US forces and allies in the region..

What is CENTCOM?

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) is a regional military command established on January 1, 1983. It oversees U.S. military operations across a broad region including the Middle East, parts of North Africa, South, and Central Asia.

Area of Responsibility:

  • Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Yemen
  • Eastern parts of North Africa, including Egypt
  • Parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan

  • Conducting counterterrorism operations against groups like Daesh and al-Qaeda
  • Maintaining regional security and stability by protecting U.S. strategic interests and strengthening partnerships with allied nations
  • Providing rapid military response to crises in the region
