U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla stated that Türkiye is playing a very positive role in the integration process between northeastern Syria and the Damascus administration during congressional testimony on Tuesday.
Speaking at a House of Representatives session on CENTCOM's status and missions, Kurilla provided updates on the current situation in Syria while emphasizing Türkiye's constructive contribution to regional stability.
General Kurilla noted that the United States is working to ensure Syria's territorial integrity while preventing any disruption to counter-Daesh operations.
He also confirmed that direct discussions continue with terrorist group PKK/YPG elements operating under the name "SDF" in this context.
"We are working on the integration of elements in northeastern Syria into the Syrian administration," Kurilla stated, adding that "Türkiye is playing a very positive role in this matter, which is a very important element for Syria's stability."
The CENTCOM commander characterized the ongoing discussions between parties about Syria's governance structure as highly constructive, emphasizing the importance of inclusive dialogue.
"I think they need to find out for themselves how they will manage the entire country," Kurilla commented, underscoring the need for Syrian-led solutions to governance challenges.
Kurilla's testimony represents a significant acknowledgment of Türkiye's diplomatic efforts in facilitating dialogue in Syria.
